Pius X has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Lincoln North Star Navigators at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Pius X knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 16 games -- so hopefully the Navigators like a good challenge.
Even though Kearney scored an imposing 66 points on Tuesday, Pius X still came out on top. Pius X came out on top in a nail-biter against the Bearcats and snuck past 68-66.
Pius X's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kellan Humm, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Adam Searcey, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Lincoln North Star pushed their score all the way to 57 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 58-57 to Fremont.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was KG Gatwech, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds and two steals. He also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Jordan Castor was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with two steals.
Pius X pushed their record up to 12-4 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.6 points per game. As for Lincoln North Star, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-7 record this season.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as Pius X and the Navigators are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Pius X hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 66.7 points per game. However, it's not like Lincoln North Star struggles in that department as they've been averaging 63.1 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Pius X came up short against the Navigators in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, falling 61-55. Can Pius X avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
