Fort Cherry is on a nine-game streak of home wins, while Burgettstown is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Fort Cherry Rangers will take on the Burgettstown Blue Devils at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Friday, Fort Cherry got themselves on the board against Carlynton, but Carlynton never followed suit. They blew past the Cougars 42-0 on the road. 42 seems to be a good number for Fort Cherry as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.
Fort Cherry relied on the efforts of Ethan Faletto, who rushed for 103 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries, and Matt Sieg, who rushed for 135 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries. Shane Cornali also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Carlynton to a paltry 208 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Fort Cherry's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out nine times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Louis Ryan and his two sacks.
Meanwhile, everything went Burgettstown's way against Avella on Friday as Burgettstown made off with a 28-6 win. That's two games straight that Burgettstown has won by exactly 22 points.
Their wins bumped Fort Cherry to 9-0 and Burgettstown to 5-3.
Fort Cherry strolled past Burgettstown in their previous matchup back in October of 2022 by a score of 48-34. Will Fort Cherry repeat their success, or does Burgettstown have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
