The Surprise Valley Hornets can finally bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. They took down Bethel Christian 50-36. The victory was just what Surprise Valley needed coming off of a 83-33 defeat in their prior game.
Surprise Valley was led to victory by Iina Nabahe-Henry and Casey Grove. Nabahe-Henry scored 15 points along with four steals, while Grove dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. Nabahe-Henry hasn't dropped below two steals for ten straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Wyatt Carpenter, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds.
Despite the defeat, Bethel Christian saw an underclassman step up: Rad Schenkenberger dropped a double-double on 14 points and 17 rebounds. Schenkenberger has been hot recently, having posted four or more blocks the last six times he's played. Braden Johnson was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Surprise Valley's win bumped their record up to 7-10. As for Bethel Christian, they dropped their record down to 3-13 with that loss, which was their eighth straight on the road.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Surprise Valley won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on January 31st. Dunsmuir has now lost 13 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 1. As for Bethel Christian, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. Butte Valley will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
