Madison and Jefferson Area are an even 3-3-2 against one another since April of 2017, but likely not for long. The Blue Streaks will head out to square off against the Falcons at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Madison is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.
Madison barely beat Lakeside the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Blue Streaks blew past the Dragons 10-3 on Monday. The Blue Streaks haven't had any issues with the Dragons recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.
Camille Horvath made a big impact no matter where she played. She pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Paige Higgins, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Lauren Martin was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Meanwhile, Jefferson Area was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They lost 10-0 to Hickory.
Jefferson Area's defeat dropped their record down to 8-11. As for Madison, their record is now 10-8.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Madison hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .312. However, it's not like Jefferson Area struggles in that department as they've averaged .393. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Madison suffered a grim 15-4 defeat to Jefferson Area in their previous meeting back in April. Can the Blue Streaks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
