In Saturday's Canine Competition, Othello prevailed. They won by a run and slipped past the Ellensburg Bulldogs 4-3. Winning may never get old, but the Huskies sure are getting used to it with their sixth in a row.
Aiden Garza spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on three hits and racked up six Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Rjay Garza was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Xzyyvn Martinez, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.
Othello pushed their record up to 15-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. As for Ellensburg, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-8.
We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Othello will face off against rival Selah at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Huskies 1.6, the Vikings 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Ellensburg is set to square off against their familiar foe East Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
