The Trinity Hillers are taking a road trip to face off against the Laurel Highlands Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Trinity has three straight victories, Laurel Highlands has six straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Trinity is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing Chartiers Valley: they outscored them in every quarter. The Hillers were the clear victors by a 42-18 margin over the Colts on Friday. Considering the Hillers have won three matchups by more than 21 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Trinity's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Owen Gardner, who rushed for 222 yards on only 15 carries, and Jonah Williamson, who rushed for 163 yards on only 14 carries. Williamson's longest rush was for an incredible 75 yards. Daniel Glass got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Trinity was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 388 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
Trinity didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Ben Priest, Glass, and Tyler Welsh picked up one apiece. Glass got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Laurel Highlands had to suffer through a 48-6 loss at the hands of Belle Vernon. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania football rankings (they are ranked 418th, while the Leopards are ranked 106th).
Laurel Highlands' defeat dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Trinity, the win got them back to even at 4-4.
Everything came up roses for Trinity against Laurel Highlands in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 38-3 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hillers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
