You can't lose the match if you win every quarter, and that was precisely the Wilber-Clatonia Wolverines's strategy against the Thayer Central Titans on Saturday. Wilber-Clatonia enjoyed a cozy 49-30 win over the Titans. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Wilber-Clatonia also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2023.
Wilber-Clatonia found their leader in underclassman Grant Kuhlmann, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Carter Skleba, who scored 11 points.
When it comes to explaining why Thayer Central lost, one person who can't be blamed is Sam Souerdyke. Despite the final result, he scored 22 points.
Wilber-Clatonia has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-9 record this season. As for Thayer Central, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-9.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wilber-Clatonia will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against the Mustangs at 7:30 p.m. on February 6th. Sutton will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive. As for Thayer Central, they will head out on the road to face off against the Huskies on Tuesday. Shelby-Rising City knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matchups -- so hopefully the Titans like a good challenge.
