Greenville is a perfect 4-0 against Germantown since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Spartans will be playing in front of their home fans against the Clippers at 4:30 p.m. Greenville has now lost eight straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since April 14.
Greenville managed to slip by Cairo-Durham the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Spartans lost 29-1 to the Mustangs on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Spartans have suffered against the Mustangs since May 8, 2017.
Greenville saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Madisyn Werner, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run.
Germantown hadn't beaten Rensselaer on the road since May 6, 2019 but that history sure didn't bother them on Wednesday. The Clippers were the clear victors by a 17-3 margin over the Rams. With that victory, the Clippers brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.
Emma Schmidt made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and three runs. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maddy Dodge, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Allie Shumway, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
Germantown kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Germantown's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-8. As for Greenville, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-11.
Greenville took their victory against Germantown in their previous meeting back in April by a conclusive 22-3 score. Will the Spartans repeat their success, or do the Clippers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
