LIZ ALSOP made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on ANNE ROBINSON, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season. KIRA SMITH was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
Morgantown was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .438. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask University). They never let Preston get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Hawks, who have now won four games by eight runs or more so far this season.
Like Morgantown, University also got a great game from a two-way player: Sophia Lehosit. She struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Lehosit was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, University got a big performance out of Lexi Elza, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Maddie Campbell, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
University pushed their record up to 7-0 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Morgantown, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Morgantown hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like University struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Morgantown couldn't quite get it done against University in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 as they fell 5-1. Can the Mohigans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
