After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Alta, the Snow Canyon Warriors were happy to have found some success on Saturday. They blew past West Jordan 65-44. Given Snow Canyon's advantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 34th, while West Jordan is ranked 87th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Owen Mackay was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 23 points and 12 rebounds. He set a new season high mark in blocks with four. The team also got some help courtesy of Drey Smith, who scored ten points along with six rebounds.
Despite the loss, West Jordan still got an impressive performance from Carter Dorenbosch, who scored 14 points. The game was Dorenbosch's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Colton Blackham, who scored ten points.
Snow Canyon is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. As for West Jordan, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-10.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Snow Canyon will take on Crimson Cliffs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Crimson Cliffs focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight last Wednesday. West Jordan and Cyprus will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 3rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Cyprus is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.
