Softball Recap: Chapel Hill Wins Going Away Against Northwood

Chapel Hill hadn't done well against Northwood recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Everything went the Chapel Hill Tigers' way against the Northwood Chargers as the Chapel Hill Tigers made off with an 18-4 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Tigers considering their two-run performance the game before.

Alexandra (Kes) Duncan was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 15 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. Duncan was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing Three bases. while going 3-for-5. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in hits.

In other batting news, Chapel Hill let Channing Clark and Isabella Chupp run wild. Clark went a perfect 5-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI, while Chupp went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI Clark has posted since back in April of 2024. Rachel Penzner was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.

Chapel Hill always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .568. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The victory got Chapel Hill back to even at 3-3. As for Northwood, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-6.

Looking ahead, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Chapel Hill Tigers challenge Athens Drive Jaguars at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Athens Drive is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season. As for Northwood, they will venture away from home to face off against Graham at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Northwood is facing Graham at the right time seeing as Graham is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
