The Gulf Pointe Latin Gladiators lost against the L.E.A.D. Academy Lions back in January of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. Gulf Pointe Latin fell 58-46 to L.E.A.D. Academy. Gulf Pointe Latin has not had much luck with L.E.A.D. Academy recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Despite the loss, Gulf Pointe Latin saw an underclassman step up: John DeFore scored 15 points along with nine rebounds and three steals. That's the first time this season that DeFore scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Micah Crumpler, who scored five points along with eight rebounds and three blocks.
Even though they lost, Gulf Pointe Latin smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead L.E.A.D. Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Donovan Dean, who scored 17 points. Kendrick Williamson was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with seven rebounds.
Gulf Pointe Latin's loss dropped their record down to 2-6. As for L.E.A.D. Academy, their win bumped their record up to 3-12.
Gulf Pointe Latin won't have much time to rest: their next match is against South Baldwin Christian Academy at 6:30 p.m. on January 12th. South Baldwin Christian Academy is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak. As for L.E.A.D. Academy, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Munroe at 6:30 p.m. Hopefully Munroe focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Wednesday.
