The Cooper Bulldogs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Boles Hornets at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Cooper knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven matches -- so hopefully Boles likes a good challenge.
Cooper stacked a fifth blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They blew past Alba-Golden, posting a 40-0 win at home. Given Cooper's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 265th, while Alba-Golden is ranked 841st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Cooper's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Canon Ingram, who rushed for 153 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.1 yards per carry, and also threw for 47 yards and a touchdown on only four passes. Another player making a difference was Adryean Mapps, who gained 140 total yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Boles took a serious blow against Wolfe City two weeks ago, falling 45-7. Boles was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 45-0.
Cooper's win was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 8-1. Even more impressive is the teams they beat to make that streak: Alba-Golden, Wolfe City, and Collinsville. As for Boles, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season.
Thursday's contest might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Cooper has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 367.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Boles struggles in that department as they've been averaging 196.6 per game. It's looking like Thursday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Everything came up roses for Cooper against Boles when the teams last played back in November of 2022 as the team secured a 52-0 victory. Does Cooper have another victory up their sleeve, or will Boles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
