Mountain Vista gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Doherty Spartans 42-7. The win was familiar territory for the Golden Eagles, who have now won 20 games in a row dating back to last season.
Ariana Akey had a dynamite game, rushing for 106 yards and three touchdowns on only nine carries, while also throwing for 228 yards and three TDs. She has been hot, having posted two or more rushing touchdowns the last five times she's played. Kayleigh Besch was in the mix as well, providing Mountain Vista with two scores.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Mountain Vista's defense and their four sacks. Braelynn Looney was especially locked on to Doherty's QB and sacked her three times.
Mountain Vista wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 46-6 victory against Douglas County on the 20th. As for Doherty, they have also already played their next match, a 26-0 loss against Valor Christian on the 22nd.
