The Rockingham County Cougars's three-game losing streak came to an end on Saturday. They walked away with a 66-56 victory over Leadership Academy. The victory was just what Rockingham County needed coming off of a 92-52 loss in their prior matchup.
Dalton Johnson was his usual excellent self, scoring 28 points along with seven assists and six rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Rockingham County's points. Luke Strittmatter was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with ten rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Leadership Academy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Will Martin. Despite the final result, he scored 16 points along with five rebounds and two blocks. That's the first time this season that Martin posted two or more blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Caden Ryker, who scored 13 points along with two steals.
The win got Rockingham County back to even at 6-6. As for Leadership Academy, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost eight of their last ten matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-8 record this season.
Rockingham County will head out on the road to take on Northeast Guilford at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Leadership Academy, Leadership Academy and Winston-Salem Prep will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 16th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in North Carolina (Winston-Salem Prep is ranked 558th, while Leadership Academy is ranked 561st).
