Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only the Discovery Spartans walked away with it. They walked away with a 69-58 victory over the Wildcats on Thursday. The victory was familiar territory for Discovery who now have seven in a row.
Darius Livingston was his usual excellent self, scoring 21 points. He has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last nine times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Willie Wilson, who scored 13 points.
When it comes to explaining why McKeel Academy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Axel Acevedo. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Alex Sessoms, who scored 12 points along with three steals.
Discovery pushed their record up to 20-5 with that win, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 80.5 points per game. As for McKeel Academy, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 18-9.
Discovery will head out on the road to challenge Lake Highland Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Discovery knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past eight games -- so hopefully Lake Highland Prep likes a good challenge. McKeel Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
