The Lake Gibson Braves will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Lake Minneola Hawks at 7:30 p.m. The timing isn't great for Lake Gibson: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Lake Minneola has snatched up three consecutive wins on the road.
Last Friday, Lake Gibson got themselves on the board against George Jenkins, but George Jenkins never followed suit. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Eagles 42-0 on the road. The high flying offensive effort was a huge turnaround for Lake Gibson's 12-point performance the matchup before.
Lake Gibson can attribute much of their success to Fentrell Graham, who rushed for 146 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries. Graham was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 57 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Kordell Lewis, who picked up 61 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Lake Minneola put the finishing touches on their fifth blowout victory of the season two weeks ago. They breezed by Forest at home to the tune of 63-33. Given Lake Minneola's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 72nd, while Forest is ranked 225th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Dane Thompkins continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 233 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 11.1 yards per carry. Thompkins hasn't dropped below two rushing touchdowns for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Jackson Hughes, who threw for 374 yards and four touchdowns while completing 74.1% of his passes.
Their wins bumped Lake Gibson to 5-4 and Lake Minneola to 6-3.
