The Greene Central Rams lost a heartbreaker when they last took the court, but unfortunately for them the loss they were handed on on Friday was a bit more commanding. Their tough 85-63 defeat to Farmville Central might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Greene Central can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 316th, while Farmville Central is ranked 16th).
Greene Central's loss came despite strong showings from Denelly Coppedge and Deitrich Williams. Coppedge dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds, while Williams went 6 for 9 from beyond the arc en route to 20 points and 0 assists. Coppedge hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for five straight games. Michael Suggs Jr. was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
This is the second loss in a row for Greene Central and nudges their season record down to 7-10. As for Farmville Central, their win was their 27th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-1.
Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing North Pitt the next time they take the court. Farmville Central will host North Pitt at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while Greene Central will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
