The Western Warriors will square off against the Doral Academy Red Rock Dragons at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Western's hitters haven't had much luck over their past four games, but Wednesday's contest will give them a chance to turn things around.
Western fell victim to Clark and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They lost 8-0 to the Chargers.
Western saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Adrian Diaz, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles.
Meanwhile, with a playoff win on the line, Doral Academy Red Rock rose to the challenge on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Desert Shields, sneaking past 4-3.
Ethan Hong and Harvey Swann made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Hong tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Swann struck out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. At bat, Hong went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, one double, and one RBI, while Swann went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run. Doral Academy Red Rock is undefeated when Hong posts two or more stolen bases, but 4-12-1 otherwise.
In other batting news, Sebastian Zaman was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Doral Academy Red Rock: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-12-1 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Keagan Gartner, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
Doral Academy Red Rock kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are undefeated (4-0) when they post 11 or more hits.
Doral Academy Red Rock's victory bumped their record up to 7-12-1. As for Western, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-11.
Western skirted past Doral Academy Red Rock 5-3 in their previous matchup back in March. Do the Warriors have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Dragons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
