Lela Byrd made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, firing off two home runs, four RBI, and one double while going 3-for-3.
In other batting news, Aaliyah Engle was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. Kyndal Engle was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.
Meanwhile, South Greene lost 24-6 to Cloudland on Thursday.
South Greene saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kortnei Bailey, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double. Another was Macy Roberts, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Unicoi County's win bumped their record up to 31-2. As for South Greene, their loss dropped their record down to 10-12.
Everything went Unicoi County's way against South Greene in their previous meeting two weeks ago, as Unicoi County made off with a 19-0 victory. Do the Blue Devils have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rebels turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
