After flying high against the Merrill Bluejays last Tuesday, the Wausau West Warriors came back down to earth. Wausau West took a hard 71-53 fall against Stevens Point on Friday. While losing is never fun, Wausau West can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Wisconsin basketball rankings (they are ranked 101st, while Stevens Point is ranked fifth).
Several Warriors players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Lucas Hager, who scored 14 points. Bennett Matteson was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with five rebounds.
Wausau West's loss ended a seven-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-6. As for Stevens Point, their victory was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-1.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wausau West will take on Medford at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Stevens Point, they will be playing at home against Marshfield at 7:45 p.m. on Monday. Marshfield will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak.
