Basketball Recap: Lyle Austin Key Part of a Team Effort in Spartans Win

After losing to Canyon del Oro the last time they met, Vista Grande decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Vista Grande Spartans managed a 59-54 win over the Canyon del Oro Dorados on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Spartans.

Vista Grande got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Lyle Austin out in front who went 7 of 15 on his way to 18 points. The game was Austin's tenth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Ju Ju Rodgers, who went 5 for 12 en route to 15 points and five rebounds.

Despite the loss, Canyon del Oro saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Henry Matus went 9 of 14 on his way to 24 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Matus has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Mykael Nunez, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine boards.

Vista Grande has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.5 points per game. As for Canyon del Oro, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 11-5.

Vista Grande wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 63-60 loss against Mountain View on the 21st. As for Canyon del Oro, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 67-54 win against Maricopa on the 21st.
