On Friday, Yuma Catholic beat Ironwood 49-41. Given Yuma Catholic's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 88th, while Ironwood is ranked 208th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Amanda Wiley was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 28 points and 15 rebounds. That makes it nine consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of Yuma Catholic's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sadie Estes, who scored four points along with four steals.
Yuma Catholic's victory bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Ironwood, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-8.
Yuma Catholic won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Ganado at 1:30 p.m. on December 30, 2023. Ganado is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. Ironwood will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Casteel at 7:00 p.m. on January 8th.
