North Edgecombe had lost seven straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 1-8 to make it eight. They took a 34-22 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Washington County Panthers. On the bright side, the 22- point performance marked the Warriors' highest-scoring matchup to date.
Despite the defeat, North Edgecombe saw an underclassman step up: freshman Saadiq Barber picked up 65 receiving yards and one touchdown, and also rushed for 60 yards. Barber showed off some serious burst, cutting upfield on a catch for 61 yards.
Even if they lost, North Edgecombe's defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Anwar Williams, D'Marus Powell, and Amari Brockington, who each picked up one sack apiece.
