Brinlee Gillman made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. Those nine strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.
In other batting news, Lucy Clark and Saralynn Hair did most of the damage at the plate: Clark scored two runs and stole a base while going 4-for-5, while Hair went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Hair has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Callie Huff, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.
Mountain View hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Provo fell victim to Payson and their airtight pitching crew last Thursday. They came up short against the Lions, falling 17-0. The Bulldogs have struggled against the Lions recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.
Mountain View's record is now 5-9. As for Provo, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-9.
Provo's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Mountain View has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10 hits per game. It's a different story for Provo, though, as they've been averaging 9.3 hits. Given Mountain View's sizable advantage in that area, the Bulldogs will need to find a way to close that gap.
Mountain View took their victory against Provo in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 19-2 score. Do the Bruins have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bulldogs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
