Basketball Recap: South Columbus Takes a Loss

After a string of three wins, South Columbus's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They lost 60-38 to the Lumberton Pirates. While losing is never fun, the Stallions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 204th, while the Pirates are ranked 61st).

Lumberton was led to victory by Jaiden Shephard and Lonnie Porter. Shephard dropped a double-double on 13 points and 19 boards, while Porter dropped a triple-double on 11 points, 11 boards, and ten assists. Shephard is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last 30 games he's played dating back to last season. Christopher Hammonds was another key player, putting up 12 points and eight rebounds.

South Columbus' defeat dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Lumberton, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season.

South Columbus wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 71-60 victory against Johnsonville on the 9th. As for Lumberton, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 64-39 win against Cape Fear on the 13th.
