The Borrego Springs Rams scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They snuck past Calexico Mission with a 65-59 win. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Brody White was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 28 points and 22 rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Borrego Springs' points. Christopher Alcaraz was another key contributor, scoring 24 points along with six rebounds and five steals.
Despite the defeat, Calexico Mission saw an underclassman step up: Leonardo Longino scored 37 points. That was a full 62.7% of Calexico Mission's points, marking the seventh time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sergio Jacobo, who scored eight points.
Borrego Springs' win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-8. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.3 points per game. As for Calexico Mission, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.
Borrego Springs will head out on the road to face off against Warner at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Warner focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 last Tuesday. As for Calexico Mission, they will be playing at home against West Shores at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. West Shores is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
