South Pittsburg has gone a perfect 9-0 against Copper Basin recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Pirates will look to defend their home field against the Cougars at 8:00 p.m. South Pittsburg knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 31 points or more in their past seven matchups -- so hopefully Copper Basin likes a good challenge.
South Pittsburg's defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They breezed past Sale Creek to the tune of 56-0. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won seven contests by 24 points or more so far this season.

South Pittsburg's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dayon Cooper, who picked up 140 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also rushed for 62 yards. That's the most rushing yards Cooper has posted since back in December of 2024. Another rusher making a difference was Jamychal Buckner, who rushed for 60 yards and three TDs on only seven carries.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something South Pittsburg proved: they limited Sale Creek to a paltry one yards per carry. The Pirates didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 10.6.
Meanwhile, the third road matchup was the charm for Copper Basin, as they earned their first away win of the season. Everything went their way against Pickett County on Friday as they made off with a 44-18 victory. The game marked the Cougars' most dominant win of the season.
South Pittsburg better keep an eye on Nathan Spencer. He was instrumental in Copper Basin's win, rushing for 271 yards and four scores on only eight carries. Spencer really tore up the turf during one magnificent 75-yard run. Nick Bird helped out on the ground, rushing for 101 yards.
South Pittsburg pushed their record up to 7-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 4.6 points on average over those games. As for Copper Basin, they picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 3-5.
Everything came up roses for South Pittsburg against Copper Basin when the teams last played back in September of 2024, as the squad secured a 49-0 win. Will the Pirates repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
