Richland is 0-3 against Wingfield since January of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Richland Rangers will head out on the road to challenge the Wingfield Falcons at 7:30 p.m. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with 12 consecutive losses for Richland and three for Wingfield.
Richland suffered their biggest loss since December 14, 2023 on Tuesday. They were outmatched by Raymond on the road and fell 66-32. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Richland in their matchups with Raymond: they've now lost nine in a row.
Meanwhile, Wingfield pushed their score all the way to 57 on Wednesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a hard 74-57 fall against McComb. While losing is never fun, Wingfield can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 265th, while McComb is ranked 101st).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Orenthal Claiborne, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Tyler Arrington was another key contributor, scoring 20 points along with two steals.
Richland dropped their record down to 6-16 with that defeat, which was their eighth straight on the road. As for Wingfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-19.
Richland came up short against Wingfield in their previous meeting on January 9th, falling 54-43. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Wingfield's Martavius Bennett, who scored 19 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. Now that Richland knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
