The Southwest Eagles are taking a road trip to take on the Ferguson Falcons at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Southwest will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
Southwest made up a huge gap compared to their last game against TERRA Environmental, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Eagles put the hurt on TERRA Environmental with a sharp 9-2 victory last Monday. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by seven runs or more this season.
Tatiana Perez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on five hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Sofia Valdes, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Another player making a difference was Ami Casteleiro, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Ferguson didn't have quite enough to beat Braddock on Tuesday and fell 12-10. The Falcons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Ferguson got a massive performance out of Idalys Lopez, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases and two RBI. Nathalia Salvat also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Southwest pushed their record up to 7-3 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Ferguson, their loss dropped their record down to 9-9.
Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Southwest hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .339. However, it's not like Ferguson struggles in that department as they've averaged .411. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Southwest came up short against Ferguson in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, falling 9-5. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
