The Northwestern Trojans will head out to challenge the Indian Land Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Northwestern barely beat Rock Hill the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Northwestern was the clear victor by an 11-5 margin over Rock Hill on Tuesday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Trojans as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.
Aubrey Sarna was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Lyla Seibert was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. McKenzie Melton was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Indian Land, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They walked away with a 4-1 victory over Fort Mill on Friday. The win continues a trend for the Warriors in their matchups with the Yellow Jackets: they've now won three in a row.
Like Northwestern, Indian Land also got a great game from a two-way player: Olivia Miller. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off 12 hits (and only one walk). Those hits were Miller's first of the season. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Logan Thomas, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run. Kendall Hurst also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Northwestern's victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 3-6. As for Indian Land, they now have a winning record of 5-4-1.
Northwestern couldn't quite finish off Indian Land in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 and fell 5-3. Can Northwestern avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
