Wekiva has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge The Jones Fightin' Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Wekiva will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 89th, while Jones is ranked 25th).
You can't lose the match if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Wekiva's strategy against Horizon on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Wekiva blew Horizon out of the water with a 60-2 final score. Wekiva pushed the score to 54-2 by the end of the third, a deficit Horizon had no chance of recovering from.
Meanwhile, Jones had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 46 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They took their contest at home with ease, bagging a 51-14 victory over Boone. The result was nothing new for Jones, who have now won three matches by 30 points or more so far this season.
Trever Jackson looked great while leading his team to the win, rushing for 68 yards and a touchdown on only six carries, while also throwing for 190 yards and a touchdown while completing 81.8% of his passes. Vernell Brown iii did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 110 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Their wins bumped Wekiva to 4-4 and Jones to 4-3.
Wekiva ended up a good deal behind Jones in their previous matchup back in November of 2022, losing 29-13. Thankfully for Wekiva, Christopher Tooley (who threw for 321 yards and three touchdowns while completing 88.9% of his passes, and also caught a touchdown) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
