The Blackhawk Cougars are taking a road trip to take on the Mohawk Area Warriors at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Blackhawk has three straight victories, Mohawk Area has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
While Blackhawk's win against Hampton wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Blackhawk narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Hampton 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Cougars have posted since May 3, 2024.
Carter Davis made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out nine batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). Davis was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Connor Welsh, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Sam Saliba also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Blackhawk kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Mohawk Area lost 14-8 to Wilmington on Monday.
Vinny Pezzuolo and Bobby Fadden stepped up to the plate in a big way. Pezzuolo went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Fadden went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Jackson Chapman, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Blackhawk's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Mohawk Area, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.
Blackhawk might still be hurting after the 14-4 defeat they got from Mohawk Area when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can Blackhawk avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
