There's no place like home for the Escalante Moquis, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Saturday. They walked away with a 61-52 win over Whitehorse on Friday. For Escalante, this counts as revenge for the 76-71 defeat the Raiders walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2023.
Mac Porter was a one-man wrecking crew for Escalante as he scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Porter has scored all season. Kendal Gardner was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Whitehorse lost, one person who can't be blamed is Lyric Phillips. Despite the final result, he scored 33 points. That was a full 63.5% of Whitehorse's points, marking the eighth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Escalante's victory bumped their record up to 9-11. As for Whitehorse, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-10 record this season.
Escalante will be playing at home against the Thunderbirds at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Piute knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five games -- so hopefully the Moquis like a good challenge. As for Whitehorse, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Mustangs at 12:30 p.m. on February 3rd. Bryce Valley is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak.
