It was a good run, but the Gillespie Miners unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They lost to Hillsboro at home by a decisive 68-50 margin. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Gillespie of the 70-69 defeat they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2023.
Jackson Tuetken was a one-man wrecking crew for Hillsboro as he scored 15 points along with five steals. Jace Stewart was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Gillespie's loss dropped their record down to 7-18. As for Hillsboro, their win bumped their record up to 9-16.
Gillespie will play host again and welcome the Shells, where tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Averaging 43.57 points so far this season, Roxana's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so the Miners better be ready for a challenge. As for Hillsboro, they will head out on the road to face off against the Purple Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Litchfield and the Hiltoppers are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads.
