Even though the Archbishop Ryan Raiders and Ragdolls scored an imposing 71 points on Monday, the Archbishop Wood Vikings still came out on top. Archbishop Wood escaped with a win against Archbishop Ryan by the margin of a single free throw, 72-71. For Archbishop Wood, this counts as revenge for the 55-54 loss Archbishop Ryan walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2023.
Archbishop Ryan lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Brandon Russell, who scored 18 points along with six assists. Those 18 points set a new season-high mark for him. Darren Williams was another key contributor, scoring 21 points.
Archbishop Wood's victory bumped their record up to 5-6. As for Archbishop Ryan, their loss ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 6-6.
Archbishop Wood will take on Neumann-Goretti at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Neumann-Goretti is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling. As for Archbishop Ryan, they will head out on the road to face off against Devon Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Devon Prep will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings (they are ranked 119th, while Archbishop Ryan is ranked 18th).
