The Rivera Raiders will square off against the Weslaco East Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
On Tuesday, Rivera came up short against Pace and fell 6-3. The Raiders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Anahy Gonzalez-Torres and Dezaray Banda did some serious damage despite the final result: Gonzalez-Torres went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one double, while Banda went 3-for-4 with two runs and one triple. That triple marked the first that Gonzalez-Torres hit this season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Weslaco East). They never let Donna North get on the board and left with a 25-0 victory on Tuesday. Considering the Wildcats have won 12 games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Kaylin Morales made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February.
In other batting news, Angelica Herrera and Jessica Salazar did most of the damage at the plate: Herrera went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and four RBI, while Salazar went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three runs gave Salazar a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Bella Herrera, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one triple.
Weslaco East always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .806. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Weslaco East has been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Rivera, their loss dropped their record down to 6-17.
Rivera suffered a grim 12-1 defeat to Weslaco East in their previous matchup back in March. Will the Raiders have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
