Union County is 2-8 against Lafayette since April of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Fightin' Tigers will head out on the road to take on the Hornets at 7:00 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
Union County is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Branford a 12-0 shutout. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Fightin' Tigers.
Erick Lasseter made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over five innings pitched. He is becoming a predictor of Union County's success: when he allows at most three hits the team is 2-1 (and 12-13 when he doesn't). Lasseter was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in February.

Meanwhile, Lafayette came tearing into Tuesday's game with 15 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Warriors as they made off with a 12-3 win. The result was nothing new for the Hornets, who have now won ten contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Hyatt Richardson was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Dawson Cannon, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one triple. Tywan Williamson was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
The victory got Union County back to even at 14-14. As for Lafayette, their record now sits at 22-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Union County has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Lafayette struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Union County suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Lafayette when the teams last played back in April. Can the Fightin' Tigers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
