Basketball Recap: Ash Fork Has No Trouble Against Williams

Ash Fork hadn't done well against Williams recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Ash Fork Spartans blew past the Williams Vikings 50-28. The Spartans have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matchups by 22 points or more this season.

Ash Fork found their leader in freshman Isabella Acosta, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 steals. The dominant performance gave Acosta a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Crystal Nixon, who went 5 of 8 en route to 10 points.

Ash Fork smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in five consecutive games.

Despite the loss, Williams saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kenzie Orozco went 6 for 13 on her way to 14 points. Fern Chatters was another key player, putting up six points.

Ash Fork's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-7. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 26.3 points per game. As for Williams, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-7.

Ash Fork wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 59-13 defeat against Joseph City on the 28th. Williams has also already played their next match, a 37-29 loss against Mogollon on the 27th.
