The Chipley Tigers will face off against the Abbeville Christian Academy Generals at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Last Tuesday, Chipley got the win against Ponce De Leon by a conclusive 8-2. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by six runs or more this season.
Olivia Brown was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-4. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in March.
Meanwhile, Abbeville Christian Academy won against Poplar Springs back in March with 19 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again last Tuesday. The Generals didn't even let the Atomics on the board, marking the Generals' second-straight 19-0 shutout. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Generals.
Hope Kennedy and Annston Braddy were a major factor no matter where they played. On the mound, Kennedy pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Braddy struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Kennedy went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double, while Braddy got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two RBI.
In other batting news, Abbeville Christian Academy got a massive performance out of Lizzy Stewart, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. Those stolen bases marked the first that Stewart snagged this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Cassie Braddy, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-4.
Abbeville Christian Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .654. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in four consecutive games.
Chipley is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Abbeville Christian Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 2-3.
Monday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Chipley has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .474. However, it's not like Abbeville Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .622.
