Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Toledo

Toledo waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Myrtle Point Bobcats a 13-0 shutout. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Boomers also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.

Kealey Coxen made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. She also brought in two RBI, marking her first of the season.

In other batting news, Toledo let Lindsey Otis and Faith Retherford run wild. Otis went 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Retherford got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave Retherford a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Gracee Retherford, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in both of her plate appearances.

Toledo was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .389. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.

Toledo's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Myrtle Point, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Toledo is set to face off against their familiar foe Powers at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Myrtle Point will challenge rival Eddyville at 2:00 p.m. on Friday.
