The Ferguson Falcons are taking a road trip to challenge Lourdes Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Ferguson has given up an average of 7.2 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Ferguson made up a huge gap compared to their last game against TERRA Environmental, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Falcons fell just short of TERRA Environmental by a score of 11-9 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Falcons have suffered since April 15, 2025.
Amaya Santamaria and Nathalia Salvat did some serious damage despite the final result: Santamaria went 4-for-5 with two doubles and one RBI, while Salvat went 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Brianna Moya was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Lourdes Academy won against Miami Springs on Friday with 21 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. Everything went Lourdes Academy's way against Braddock as they made off with a 21-8 victory. The result was nothing new for Lourdes Academy, who have now won three contests by 13 runs or more so far this season.
Mia Rivera made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March of 2025. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two RBI and one double. Those hits were her first of the season.
In other batting news, Lourdes Academy got a massive performance out of Valerie Portuondo, who went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double. That's the most stolen bases Portuondo has posted since back in March of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Jianna Bustamante, who went 2-for-6 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.
Lourdes Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Lourdes Academy pushed their record up to 3-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 20.5 runs this season. As for Ferguson, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-2.
Thursday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Ferguson has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .482. However, it's not like Lourdes Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .532. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Ferguson couldn't quite finish off Lourdes Academy when the teams last played back in April of 2025 and fell 8-6. Can the Falcons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
