Cherokee Trail and Mullen are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2019, but not for long. The Cherokee Trail Cougars are on the road again on Thursday and plays the Mullen Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on February 15th. Hopefully Cherokee Trail focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Friday.
Cherokee Trail might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 65-50 to Eaglecrest, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. While losing is never fun, Cherokee Trail can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 81st, while Eaglecrest is ranked eighth).
Despite the loss, Cherokee Trail had strong showings from Alonzo Rodgers, who scored 15 points, and Nathan Baack, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Naode Ghide, who scored four points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, Mullen suffered a rough 71-45 defeat at the hands of Smoky Hill on Friday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Mullen has scored all season.
Cherokee Trail has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-14 record this season. Mullen's record now sits at 11-10.
Cherokee Trail was able to grind out a solid win over Mullen in their previous matchup two weeks ago, winning 70-59. Will Cherokee Trail repeat their success, or does Mullen have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
