Commerce has gone 9-1 against Springfield Renaissance recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Red Raiders will look to defend their home field against Springfield Renaissance at 4:00 p.m. Commerce has given up an average of 11.8 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Commerce came into their game on Thursday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 13-1 to Pathfinder RVT. The loss continues a trend for the Red Raiders in their meetings with the Pioneers: they've now lost nine in a row.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Springfield Renaissance, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They blew past Putnam Vo-Tech 21-13 on Thursday. The victory was some much needed relief for Springfield Renaissance as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Jocelyn Pena was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and ten unearned) runs off four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Jasmine Torres was incredible, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and four RBI. Torres is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least two every time she's taken the field this season. Leah Charles was another key player, getting on base in five of her six plate appearances with four runs and one stolen base.
Commerce's defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Springfield Renaissance, their win bumped their record up to 2-3.
Springfield Renaissance's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Commerce hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .323. It's a different story for Springfield Renaissance, though, as they've only averaged .172. Will they be able to contain Commerce's hitters?
Everything went Commerce's way against Springfield Renaissance in their previous meeting on Monday, as Commerce made off with a 22-8 victory. Will the Red Raiders repeat their success, or do Springfield Renaissance have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
