Salem hasn't had much luck against Ocean Lakes recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Sundevils will head out to face off against the Dolphins at 4:00 p.m.

Salem saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Zachary Rigsby, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Rigsby is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Hayden Avellaneda also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, Ocean Lakes beat Kempsville 8-5 on Thursday. The Dolphins haven't had any issues with the Chiefs recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Luke Ellison spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Tre Hamilton, who scored two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He has become a key player for Ocean Lakes: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-2 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Turner Kuhle, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Ocean Lakes' victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-2. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Salem, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Salem has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Ocean Lakes struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Salem suffered a grim 10-2 defeat to Ocean Lakes when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Sundevils avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
