In what's become a running theme this season, the Peach County Trojans gave their fans yet another huge win on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Pike County 64-36 on the road. With Peach County ahead 33-13 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
Peach County got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Marissa Melendez out in front who scored 11 points along with two steals. Another player making a difference was Alexia Heyward, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds.
Several Pirates players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Sadie Lewis, who scored 13 points along with two steals. Lewis is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kerrah Foster, who scored nine points along with two steals and two blocks.
Peach County has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. As for Pike County, they now have a losing record at 8-9.
Peach County won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Crisp County at 6:00 p.m. on February 3rd. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Peach County has four straight victories, Crisp County has six straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field. As for Pike County, they will head out on the road to take on Strong Rock Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Strong Rock Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 29 on Saturday.
