CHICAGO – The American Family Insurance High School Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships will air at 4:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, April 1, on CBS. The second-annual event will showcase the dunking and shooting talents of 24 of the nation's top high school seniors. Individual events in the American Family Insurance High School Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships include: American Family Insurance Women's 3-Point Contest, U.S. Marines Men's 3-Point Contest and American Family Insurance Dunk Contest.
"American Family Insurance is proud of the way these young men and women have pursued their dreams, both on and far above the basketball court," said Annette Knapstein, American Family Insurance vice president of marketing. "And it's not just the athletes. The communities really came through in supporting their players. Doherty (Colorado Springs, Colo.)* Winner of Facebook voting competitionThe final three roster spots in each contest were filled via Facebook fan voting. The Facebook campaign featured 48 high school seniors – 16 competitors in each category – who uploaded YouTube videos to the official Facebook page and were then hand-selected as bracket contestants. Each week for four weeks, the contestants competed in a bracket-style knockout competition. Half the field advanced to the next round after a week of voting until, ultimately, the dunker, men's 3-point shooter and women's 3-point shooter with the most votes remained. Alumni of the event include Oklahoma State's Cezar Guerrero, Texas' Sheldon McClellan, UConn's DeAndre Daniels and Wake Forest's Chase Fischer.
The taping of the American Family Insurance High School Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships will take place at the Alario Center in New Orleans on Friday, March 30 at 8 p.m. ET.
