The Weld Central Rebels suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Thursday. They were outmatched by Berthoud on the road and fell 69-21. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Weld Central in their matchups with Berthoud: they've now lost five in a row.
Despite the loss, Weld Central still got an impressive performance from Riley Phelps, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 13 rebounds. Phelps is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last seven games she's played.
Leading Berthoud to victory were Avery Pfohl and Maddie Rogers. Pfohl scored 21 points along with five steals, while Rogers scored 15 points along with four steals. That's the first time this season that Rogers scored 15 or more points. Olivia Martinez was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Weld Central's defeat was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 3-7. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 27.0 points per game. As for Berthoud, their win bumped their record up to 3-8.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Weld Central will take on Brush at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Brush focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 36 last Wednesday. As for Berthoud, they will be playing in front of their home fans against The Classical Academy at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. The Classical Academy is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 52.9 points per game.
