Even though the Lake Gibson Braves scored an imposing 74 points on Friday, the Lake Minneola Hawks still came out on top. Lake Minneola secured a 78-74 W over Lake Gibson. Given Lake Minneola's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 154th, while Lake Gibson is ranked 349th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Lake Minneola to victory were Brandon Colbert and Landon Blackwell. Colbert scored 16 points along with seven steals and five assists, while Blackwell scored 30 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Blackwell has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Alvin Colbert, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds.
Lake Minneola has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-9 record this season. As for Lake Gibson, they now have a losing record at 9-10.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lake Minneola will take on Zephyrhills at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Zephyrhills has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 552 points over their last nine games. As for Lake Gibson, they will stay at home for another game and welcome The First Academy at 7:00 p.m. on January 22nd. Hopefully The First Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Friday.
