After a string of four wins, The Owensboro Red Devils''s good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 45-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of Madisonville-North Hopkins. Owensboro was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Madisonville-North Hopkins apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in August of 2018.
Despite the defeat, Owensboro saw an underclassman step up: Evan Hampton rushed for 168 yards and a touchdown while picking up 10.5 yards per carry, and also picked up 119 receiving yards and a touchdown. Another player making a difference was Trevor Delacey, who threw for 181 yards and three touchdowns.
Leading Madisonville-North Hopkins to victory were Kanyon Johnson and Markezz Hightower. Johnson threw for 336 yards and three touchdowns while completing 81.8% of his passes, while Hightower gained 259 total yards and six touchdowns. Johnson is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last three games he's played.
Owensboro's defeat dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Madisonville-North Hopkins, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-2.
Owensboro will be playing in front of their home fans against Henderson County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Kentucky (Henderson County is ranked 41st, while Owensboro is ranked 44th). As for Madisonville-North Hopkins, they will head out on the road to face off against Murray at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
